Newly-promoted Championship side AFC Bournemouth faced Spanish giants Real Madrid at Goldsands Stadium on Sunday night.

Real Madrid played a strong squad to face the Championship side, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Mesut Ozil all starting.

Ian Harte, the 35-year-old left-back told reporters the game plan Bournemouth had to stop Real Madrid from playing their attacking ways.

He said: "We have to press them, play high tempo and try and get the ball back and keep it. I don't think there is a big difference in fitness but they can keep the ball.

22 minute: Goal (Cristiano Ronaldo) 0-1

Unfortunately, Bournemouth's game plan only lasted 22 minutes, when Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock with an amazing free-kick which was never going to be stopped.

Things then got worse for the Championship side when Brett Pitman, the man who scored 19 goals in 28 games in his second spell at the club, was substituted off with what seemed to be muscle strain.

42 minute: Goal (Cristiano Ronaldo) 0-2

A horrible mistake from Elphick gifted Ronaldo his second goal of the game. A piece of miss-control sent Ronaldo straight through on goal, and because of that, Elphick paid the ultimate price.

45 minute: Goal (Sami Khedira) 0-3

Within a minute of Ronaldo's strike, Sami Khedira bags another for the Spanish giants. The Germany international stabbed home a fierce, low drive from inside the box. Once again, poor Bournemouth defending.

47 minute: Goal (Gonzalo Higuain) 0-4

Amazingly, Bournemouth started the second half just as they let the first. Just two minutes after half-time, the Argentine quickly read a deflected pass from Alvaro Morata, racing through to lash past Flahavan from inside the area.

71 minute: Goal (Di Maria) 0-5

Great goal from the other Argentine in the Madrid squad. The winger drove from deep, evading two challenges before cutting inside to find the bottom corner from just outside the penalty area.

83 minute: Goal (Casemiro) 0-6

The 21-year-old Brazilian gets himself on the scoresheet. Good worked goal from Real Madrid, steady up build up play and Casemiro read Higuain's pass to perfection and tucked in a goal from a really tight angle.

Bournemouth would have wished for a more open game, but it has been a nice occasion for the fans nevertheless.
