Zinedine Zidane - art in motion and certainly one of the greatest midfielders of all time.
On the 23rd June 1972, a star was born in the north of Marseille. Zidane is a practising Muslim and is of Algerian descent. His parents emigrated to Paris from North Algeria just before the Algerian war had broken out.
Zidane first got a taste of football at the age of five and has never looked back since.
He played as an attacking midfielder for the French national team, Juventus and Real Madrid. Zidane was also deemed the Best European Footballer in the past 50 years by UEFA.
Amongst his many achievements, the classy Frenchman has won a World Cup, European Cup, UEFA Champions League, Serie A and La Liga titles. Zidane has won three FIFA World Player of the Year awards and a Ballon s'Or award as well.
Zidane is still remembered by some for his controversial sending off in the FIFA World Cup final in 2006 for head-butting an opponent.
The superstar can't seem to stay away from the beautiful game and is currently Real Madrid's director of football. He regularly plays for the Real Madrid veterans team and often takes part in charity matches.
"Zidane is one of the greatest players in history, a truly magnificent player," said Franz Beckenbauer, the legendary German defender.
Zidane is certainly one of the greatest players possessing sheer brilliance and class. His records and calibre speak for themselves. He truly is the greatest midfielder of all time.
