It has to be truly admired how well Arsenal have finally woken up from their slumber and started clearing out their deadwood players, who have never been up to the grade to wear with pride the famous red and white shirt, let alone play in the Premiership.
This has been great for all Arsenal supporters to see but at the same time while Arsenal were looking inside their own squad to make the cuts most needed, some of the latest hot players in world football have been going to rival clubs.
While the likes of Chelsea have been surprisingly conservative in the market along with Manchester United, it hasn’t stopped the billionaire’s at Monaco, PSG or Manchester City snapping up players like children in a sweet shop over-indulging in their latest signing’s.
Stevan Jovetic, a player who originally snubbed a £25 million move to the Premier league to hopefully join Juventus, now at City for just £22 million. How massive wages can turn a players head these days.
Is the French league really on par with the Premier league? Money talks in any language.
But its Arsenal’s increasing desperate pursuit of a players banned for the first few games of the new Premier league season and who wants to leave England for Spain that has truly puzzled every Arsenal fan.
Liverpool’s want-away striker Luis Suarez is being hugely overpriced at £40 million, while Arsenal get ever so more desperate to land a marquee player having failed with so many bids for other targets.
Arsenal are becoming so worried of a huge backlash from their own supporters, that Liverpool just keep upping the price knowing Arsenal have £70m to spend, and doing all they can to get as much for their striker.
This isn’t boding too well to all Arsenal supporters who see this desperate attempt to sign a player that really wouldn’t fit in at the Emirates without upsetting the balance of the team and those who are established.
And it is very clear that the Arsenal options for a marquee signing are becoming very thin on the ground now that long term Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain has stated Chelsea want him at the Bridge.
This is another amusing story for a player that was placed on the bench at Real Madrid by Jose Mourinho for much of his time there.
One must ask the real question about Arsenal – are Arsenal a team a marquee player wants to sign for knowing that their ambition is simply finishing in the top four and view a Champions League place as a trophy each season?
The days of signing a Dennis Bergkamp look long gone.
