With Manuel Pellegrini now at the helm, this transfer window could be crucial for Manchester City as he starts the rebuilding the squad left to him by Roberto Mancini.
We all know of the millions that Pellegrini has to spend to bring success to the Etihad and here we look at his potential starting eleven in a 4-2-2-2 formation.
Goalkeeper: Joe Hart
The England international has cemented down his place in the Manchester City team and has established himself as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.
However, last season was not his best by any stretch of the imagination, a host of key mistakes cost City vital points, but he is still expected to be City's number one over Costel Pantilimon.
Right Back: Pablo Zabaleta
The experienced Argentine had a superb season with many great defensive performances and he also contributed with goals. Zabaleta is surely going to be City's right back under Pellegrini.
Centre Backs: Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards
Captain Kompany is surely going to keep his place at centre back this season and use his experience to anchor the defence.
However there is competition for the second place at centre back between Richards and Matija Nastasic. Richards gets the nod due to his impressive performances during pre-season while Nastasic hasn't looked great to say the least.
Left Back: Aleksandar Kolarov
The Serbian international has his place in the team. While his defending is often questionable, he can hit brilliant free-kicks and always is an option going forward.
Centre Midfield: Yaya Toure and Fernandinho
For the past three seasons Yaya Toure has been City's star player and he will look to continue that trend this coming season under Pellegrini.
£34 million man Fernandinho could add the fluid, crisp passing and attacking threat that City missed last season.
Left and Right Wing: David Silva and Jesus Navas
David Silva was a key part of Manchester City's Premier League winning team and has the creativity to open up any defence.
Navas joined from Sevilla this summer and could form a formidable partnership with Spanish international teammate Silva.
Strikers: Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo
Manchester City were desperate for reinforcements up front after selling Mario Balotelli to AC Milan and Carlos Tevez to Juventus. They have recently signed Stevan Jovetic and Alvaro Negredo from Fiorentina and Sevilla respectively. Aguero and Negredo could become a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. They both have good pace, great shooting and can lead this Manchester City team to glory this season.
