Michael Vaughan is an iconic English cricketer. He captained the English side to many trophies and in the process displayed an array of batting and bowling stints that any man would be more than proud of.

The up and coming Joe Root is being likened to this cricketing giant - if his recent performances against New Zealand and Australia in the Ashes are anything to go by then we could be looking at our future captain, role-model, possibly legend right now.

The foundation is already there as Joe's family is rather much involved in the world of cricket - his grandfather was captain of Rotherham CC, his father who currently plays for the MCC and his brother who is an MCC Young Cricketer.

Ironically Joe joined Sheffield Collegiate CC where fellow Yorkshireman Michael Vaughan learnt his trade and proved to be a source of inspiration for him.

Root bowls a similar style to Vaughan with the off-break being his forte. Just like Vaughan, Joe can be seen as an all-rounder as both his batting and bowling abilities are of a high standard. Although his batting is usually betting than his bowling he is not to be under-estimated as he has claimed the wickets of top batsmen, one being Australian captain Michael Clarke.

Root's cricket ability cannot be doubted, however what can be is his leadership skills. Is he the right material to lead the team? At this moment in time, certainly not! His lack of experience would lead to not only his but also his team's downfall. Although he has played in high-profile games, Joe will still need the experience you can only get from playing at the highest level for many years.

Also it is key for him to develop his game further. He is not the best cricketer in the world. But he can be. Joe is at the tender age of 22 still leaving him plenty of time to turn into the world-class cricketer many can see him being. However it is key for him to stay on the ball.

One slip and he could be out of the England side. From then on it is very hard to get back in and subsequently he will not be playing at the highest level; he won't be able to develop into the player he can be.

Can the young lad from Yorkshire follow in the steps of a former England giant?
