Manchester City have been told to cough up £40 million if they want to land Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio this summer.

The 23-year-old made a string of impressive displays for the Portuguese side last season, scoring 12 goals as they finished runners-up to Porto in the Primeira Liga.

And this has prompted the likes of Manchester City to register an interest in the talented midfield player.

However, Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira has gone on record to say that the club will only consider selling Salvio if they receive a bid of £40 million.

New City boss Manuel Pellegrini is keen to bolster his squad ahead of the upcoming season.

But after already splashing out a reported £54 million on Fernandinho and Alvaro Negredo, and another £14.9 million on Sevilla winger Jesus Navas, it is not known if Pellegrini will part with such a significant amount of cash again.
