Tottenham close in on £18m Soldado
Tottenham look set to complete the signing of Valencia striker Roberto Soldado
Tottenham are closing in on capturing Valencia striker Roberto Soldado for £18 million as Andre Villas-Boas finally purchases a striker for the White Hart Lane club.
Many Tottenham fans were fuming at AVB for not signing a striker in the January transfer window and the majority of them believe that is the main reason they missed out on Champions League football after they were pipped to fourth by fierce-rivals Arsenal.
For the majority of last season, Tottenham only had Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe as their striking options, yet for large portions of the campaign, one of them was injured, leaving AVB and Spurs with just one striker.
The north London side have been on the look out for a new striker for years now and after failing in their pursuit of Leandro Damaio, Christian Benteke and David Villa, it now looks like they are set to secure the signing of Roberto Soldado.
Despite having a fee agreed, Tottenham still face serious competition for the Spaniard from Premier League rivals Liverpool, who are in the market for a striker as they look set to lose Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez.
The 28-year-old striker has scored 59 goals in 101 games for Valencia and has six goals in 11 for his national side Spain, so it is thought that he will add the firepower needed at White Hart Lane if they are to enter the Champions League once again.
