Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is 'very close' to joining Premier League rivals Arsenal, according to a source close to the Uruguayan striker.

Suarez's future has been dominating the back pages over the last few months after he openly admitted that he wanted to leave Liverpool and also leave England; however, it now appears that he could be on the verge of signing for Arsenal.

During the Confederations Cup, Suarez openly spoke about his future and revealed his intentions of leaving Anfield as he believes his reputation has been damaged, especially after the scrutiny he faced after biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.

After admitting that he wants to leave England, it was Real Madrid that was the most likely destination for the Uruguayan, but it now appears that Arsene Wenger is close to finally signing a striker.

Wenger has already had a £30m bid rejected by the Anfield club for Suarez, but it has been suggested that the Frenchman is ready to bid up to £40m in order to sign the striker.

According to South American journalist, Martin Charquero, who is apparently close to Suarez, a deal is in place with the two clubs for the Uruguayan to move to the Emirates Stadium.

Charquero tonight posted on Twitter: ‘Luis Suarez is very close to Arsenal’.

If Suarez was to sign for Arsenal, he would miss the first six Premier League games as he is still banned for the biting incident last season.
