Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Aly Cissokho on a season-long loan from La Liga outfit Valencia, reports TalkSport.
The French left-back struggled to break into the Valencia side last season, making only 11 league appearances. In addition to this, Cissokho made a further eight appearances in cup competitions, being regularly overlooked by manager Miroslav Dukic. Dukic instead preferred Jeremy Mathieu on a number of occasions instead of Cissokho.
Because of this, Cissokho looks set to leave Valencia on a loan deal, with Liverpool now leading the race to sign the Frenchman.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers saw his attempts to sign Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand knocked back earlier this week, as Jose Mourinho sees the youngster as a key part of his long-term plans at Stamford Bridge.
Spanish newspaper Terra have claimed that an £850,000 loan fee has been agreed between the two sides, with a view to make the deal permanent at the end of next season.
It is thought that it would take a fee of around £3.4m to prise the Frenchman away from the Mestalla if Liverpool want to make the signing permanent.
Cissokho only made the move to Spain last season, in a £5m deal from Ligue 1 outfit Lyon. But he has struggled to settle in Spain, and their dire financial state may mean that they could cash in on the left-back in the immediate future.
