Seattle Sounders have announced that leading scorer Fredy Montero has joined Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon on loan, with a view to a permanent move.

Montero's move is subject to international clearance; however, the length of the deal is yet to be confirmed.

As part of the loan deal, the Sounders have give the Lisbon giants the option of a permanent transfer if they wish.

Montero scored 60 goals during his time at Seattle, becoming the club's all-time leading goalscorer, and is also a three-time MLS All-Star.

The 25-year-old then enjoyed a successful loan move to Colombian side Millonarios in January, where he topped the club's scoring charts with seven goals in 19 starts.

Now heading to Europe for the first time in his career, Montero will no doubt have on eye on his international career, as he aims to return to the Colombia national team ahead of next summer's World Cup.
