Liverpool are reported to be close to agreeing a deal for Valencia's left-back Aly Cissokho.
According to reports in Spain carried by the Daily Express, Cissokho will join Liverpool on a season-long loan deal from Valencia for a fee in the region of £900k, with an option to sign the player permanently at the end of the season for £3.5m.
Sunderland are also interested in Cissokho, but Liverpool seem to be the favorites to sign the French defender as they delve to add competition to Jose Enrique at the left-back position.
Liverpool's boss, Brendan Rodgers confirmed that the Reds are looking in the possibility of bringing in a left-back, among other signings, saying: ''There are obviously certain areas of the squad where we're a bit thinner than others.
''We probably need a bit more support - that extra bit of quality - at the top end of the field and that's something we'll look out for.
''That'll be mixed with needing cover in the left-back position - that's something we're looking at. It's not really about numbers it's about quality.
If we can do that over the next few weeks we'll be happy.''
Aly Cissokho made a name for himself while at Lyon after leaving Porto in 2009. Cissokho then joined Valencia for only £6m, but has failed to replicate his form from his time with Lyon and Porto. But now he's looking to revive his career with Liverpool.
The left-back was also close to joining AC Milan in 2009, but failed the medical due to problems with his teeth that Milan doctors said could cause spinal problems.
