The sustained heatwave in the UK was always set to come to an eventual end but, other than the meteorologists, few would have predicted it would reach its conclusion in such Biblical fashion.

Britain's isles have been awash with thunderous showers and the skies scorched by cracks of lightning over the past 24 hours, which has made the life of a professional sportsperson somewhat treacherous.

Having begun pre-season training under blue skies and in intense heat, football stars have been brought back to reality by this more traditional British weather - as the Rangers players will certainly attest to.

Like many of their contemporaries, the Rangers squad were continuing their pre-season preparations today, but their drills were interrupted momentarily by a gargantuan strike of lightning.

The bolt prompted players and staff double-up in terror as they shielded their eyes and ears, before a chorus of giggles broke out when they realised they had almost soiled themselves due to nothing more than weather.

Watch the Rangers players jump out of their respective skins in the video below.
