Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic has said that the Bundesliga club’s target for next season is to win the Champions League.
Jurgen Klopp’s team reached the final of the competition last season, in a run which included a 4-1 home drubbing of Real Madrid in the semi-finals, before losing to Bayern Munich 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium.
The Serbian defender feels that run can give the team the confidence and belief to go one better in the upcoming campaign, having already qualified for the group stage by finishing second in the Bundesliga last season.
He said to Kicker: “We want to get back into the final again, and this time we don't want to lose it.
"We really have a taste for it because we looked really good at the highest level. We are still young, but we don't want to waste any time."
They lost their league title to Bayern Munich last season by a 25-point margin, and then sold attacking midfielder Mario Gotze to last season’s treble winners for €37m, but Subotic, 24, thinks replacements Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will make the team stronger.
"Of course Mario is a fantastic player, but we showed while he was injured last year that we can play well without him," he said.
"We covered for him well and we're definitely going to be able to do that again, I can guarantee it."
