Napoli have agreed a £30million fee for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to the Daily Express.

Higuain has been at Real Madrid for seven years but declared he wanted to leave the Spanish club at the end of last season.

The Argentine striker has been a long time target of Arsenal - who are now set to miss out.

Napoli now must work on the topic of Higuain's image rights and agree personal terms with the striker.

The Italian club had initially opened talks with Internacional's Leandro Damiao but have now turned to Higuain.

Napoli desperately need a top class striker after selling Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain for £55million.

Napoli can offer Higuain Champions League football after finishing second in Serie A last season and are hoping to challenge current champions Juventus for the Scudetto next season.

Higuain has a proven goalscoring record having scored 122 goals in 266 appearances at Real Madrid.

Higuain is also a regular goalscorer for his country. In 32 appearances he has scored a total of 20 goals.

Higuain is not just a classic number nine. He also has great link up play and good pace on the counterattack.

Higuain has the ability to replace Cavani's goals and assists - which will now be missing and he will finally get the regular first-team football he craves.
