Cash is being splashed all over European football as clubs are strengthening their ranks before the 2013/14 season gets underway. But Manchester United boss David Moyes may be wary that, apart from Crystal Palace sensation Wilfried Zaha, the English champions have yet to add to their side.
Last campaign's Champions League winners, Bayern Munich, have looked close to invincible during pre-season with the additions of Mario Gotze from fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund and Spanish playmaker Thiago Alcantara who was supposedly close to swapping Barcelona for Manchester earlier in the summer transfer window.
Barcelona themselves, have also strengthened in order to bounce back from there annihilation to the hands of former boss Pep Guardiola's new team. Brazilian superstar Neymar chose the Catalan giants over Real Madrid in a deal worth £49 million.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have managed to win the race for one of Spain's up and coming great players, in the form of highly rated Malaga midfielder, Isco. The 21-year-old had received a lot of admiration from Manchester City, however he decided to put pen to paper at the Bernabeu and join a new era under Carlo Ancelotti.
Manchester United's title rivals have also added to their squads significantly so far during the transfer window. German international Andre Schurrle along with Marco van Ginkel and goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer have joined Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge and the Portuguese manager has confirmed that his primary transfer target is Manchester United's very own Wayne Rooney.
Neighbours, Manchester City, have spent over £90 million already in their quest to win back the Premier League crown. Sevilla duo Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo, former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho and Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic have all pledged their services to the Sky Blues.
Therefore with business flying high among United's rivals and the fact that the Red Devils have failed to reach the quarter-finals stage of the Champions League for consecutive seasons, fans must feel that major signings must be made sooner rather than later.
Moyes, has already stated that adding another midfielder to his squad is his number one priority, and United are firmly into negotiations with Barcelona over former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.
A player of the calibre of the Spaniard is essential if United are to challenge on all major fronts this season.
Other reports claim that Moyes is also preparing a move for Welshman Gareth Bale after momentum had been lost on a deal to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. The Tottenham ace impressed the world with his talents during the last campaign; so much so that Real Madrid and football legend Zinedine Zidane had recently stated that in his eyes, Bale was the most impressive player in Europe last season.
