Montreal Impact have registered a second designated player as they confirmed the signing of defensive midfielder Hernan Bernardello from Spanish outfit UD Almeria on a free transfer.
If he receives international clearance in time he could feature for Impact on Saturday night when they welcome Sporting Kansas City to the Saputo Stadium.
The Argentine will link-up with 37-year-old Italian striker Marco Di Vaio, Italian legend Alessandro Nesta and ex-Inter Milan defender Nelson Rivas in Canada.
Impact sporting director Nick De Santis understandably happy to have secured the signing, stating: "His decision-making is simple but efficient,". "He will help us not only recovering balls, but in relaunching attack."
The five-foot-nine star, whose contract details have not been revealed, is the Quebec-based club's second designated player behind Di Vaio and will add impetus to his new side's push for the MLS Eastern Conference title where they sit second, and the CONCAF Champions League.
De Santis added: "He has a big motivation to play in MLS and to play for Montreal and I think he'll be a big help going forward." "He'll bring energy, volume and experience."
With nearly 200 appearances in La Liga and his native Argentina under his belt, Montreal will be hoping that Bernardello can use his experience and lead the team to glory on all fronts as the season progresses.
