Saints eye up Naughton

Published Add your comment

Southampton are set to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Kyle Naughton, according to reports.

Clubcall claims the 24-year-old Spurs defender is in search of a new home, having found opportunities limited at White Hart Lane in recent campaigns. The former England U21 international has enjoyed spells on loan at Middlesbrough, Leicester City and Norwich City in recent seasons.

PA Sports journalist Simon Peach also notes that Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is looking to add cover for current full-backs Nathaniel Clyne and Luke Shaw, and that he believes Naughton could increase competition for places.

Naughton's versatility is also viewed as a major asset that the south-coast club could utilise next season at St Mary’s.

The Sheffield United academy graduate could be available for as little as £4million, with Danny Rose's return to White Hart Lane following a loan spell at Sunderland set to limit the former England youth international’s first team chances further under manager Andre Villas-Boas in north London.
