Liverpool lose ground in Christian Atsu chase

Published 2 Comments

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is struggling to complete a deal for Porto winger Christian Atsu, according to talkSPORT.

Liverpool and Porto are reportedly at a stalemate over a fee for the Ghanian international. The Portuguese giants want £6m, but Rodgers is unwilling to meet that valuation.

The 21-year-old is keen to leave Porto, and has no shortage of suitors this summer. Benfica are also reportedly keen to snap up the bargain winger, but Liverpool lead the race.

Rodgers is keen to add to his attacking options this summer, and has already clinched deals for Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.

The report claims Rodgers had lined up Atsu to be the next addition, but the deal has stalled after the two clubs failed to compromise on a transfer fee.

Sporting Lisbon are also monitoring the situation, so Atsu has no shortage of options should he decide to stay in Portugal.

He's spent five years with Porto, and first made his breakthrough into the first-team under then-manager Andre Villas-Boas.

He already has 16 caps and three goals for this country. A quick and skilful winger, Atsu would compete with Raheem Sterling, Danny Sturrdige, Stewart Downing and the two latest Anfield recruits Alberto and Aspas for a starting place.
