Gonzalo Higuain was mobbed by hundreds of football fans today as he arrived in Italy ahead of a medical with Napoli.

The Real Madrid striker touched down in Rome on his way to Naples having agreed a move believed to be worth around £34 million.

The deal comes as a blow to Arsenal, who have pursued the 25-year-old for some time.

The Gunners were believed to have agreed a deal with Madrid worth £23 million only for the Spanish giants to ask for more money and the move to break down.

That opened the door for Napoli to stoke, and it now appear as though Rafa Benetiz is on the verge of landing the prolific forward as a replacement for Edinson Cavani, who has joined Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal now appear to have turned their attention to trying to land Luis Suarez from Liverpool, and had a bid worth £40,000,001 turned down last night.
