Hashim Mohammad Amla also known as the silent warrior, run machine and the bearded wonder described in one word - Elegance.

Amla most certainly is one of the greatest batsman of this decade and had it not been for the likes of Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting, the Durban born stroke-maker would certainly be the best batsman yet.

After graduating from Durban High School Amla had already impressed at youth level and later captained the South African under-19 team at the 2002 world cup in New Zealand. He was announced captain of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Dolphins at just the age of 21.

In 2004, after a poor run of form on the international circuit Amla's technique came under fire. He spent hours in the nets and perfected his game and in 2006 on his comeback he proved all his critics wrong by hammering 149 against New Zealand and from then on the run machine continued to do what he does best, torment bowling attacks.

Amla is currently the number one test batsman and number two One Day International batsman in the world, he also holds the record for scoring the most runs in an innings by a South African after scoring 311 not out against England in 2012.

He is the only man in history to score 1000 runs in both the ODI and test format in one year.

Amla is steadfast on religion and is a devout muslim. He was spiritually inspired by the late Moulana Yunus Patel (R.A).

Amla refrains from wearing the logo of Castle Lager, the South African alcohol company who sponsors the South African national cricket team.

The 30-year-old just seems to be getting better and better with every game that passes by and it wouldn't be a surprise if he becomes the greatest player to bless this earth.

A remarkable batsman with great quality's and one that stands out is his humbleness - a brilliant role model to the youth on and off the cricket field.
