Pre-season is all about match sharpness - the games are played at half-pace, supporters are half-interested, and referees are more lenient than normal.
You have to really lose your rag to get sent off in a pre-season fixture - and that's exactly what Newcastle centre-back Fabricio Coloccini did earlier this week.
The Argentinian saw red for a crazy choke-hold on Paços de Ferreira striker Rui Caetano - the game later finished 1-1.
Newcastle are in Portugal as they prepare for next season under boss Alan Pardew. Coloccini, who briefly went awol last term and looked set for a return to South America, has re-committed to the club and has been earmarked as a key player as the Magpies look to improve on last season's dismal campaign.
But they will not want to see this from their captain. Paços ply their trade in the Portuguese top division, and finished third last season behind Porto and Benfica.
