Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola came up against his former team Barcelona for the first time earlier today in the pre-season fixture at the Allianz Arena.

The German treble-winning team are unbeaten in eight games this pre-season, and had a strong starting XI on the field with the likes of Arjen Robben, Frack Ribery, and Thomas Muller.

It was basically the same starting line-up you will see throughout the whole of next season. There was also a starting spot for Thiago Alcantara, the man that left Barcelona for the newly-crowned champions of Europe.

However, this was a different story for Barcelona - although they were captained by Lionel Messi, the rest of the team consisted mainly of youngsters from Barcelona B, hoping to impress against the big boys.

The likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta and Pedro did not make it to Germany for the game as they are still on holiday after the Confederations Cup.

We all remember what happened last time these two team met right?

Bayern Munich ended up 7-0 winners against Barcelona over two legs in the Champions League semi-final, beating them 4-0 at the Allianz Arena, then dominating the Spanish giants 3-0 at Camp Nou.

It looked like there could have been a repeat from those two memorable nights when Bayern Munich took the lead after just 14 minutes. Some poor defending from the former Liverpool man Javier Mascherano gave Philipp Lahm the chance to make it 1-0, and he did just that when his head met Franck Ribery's sublime cross in the danger area.

It took until the 87th minute until we saw another goal, and it went to Bayern Munich. The goal was scored by Mario Mandzukic who side-footed a comfortable finish home from close range.

The game finished 2-0 to Munich, with few chances for either side and not a lot to be excited about.

If Barcelona had their star players on display then it could have been a different story, but the club's stars of tomorrow gave a good account of themselves against the champions of Europe.
