Manchester United: Cesc Fabregas or Gareth Bale?

I have no doubt that Manchester United supporters will want both Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale playing in their famous red and white shirt next season.

However, in reality they are only likely to sign one of these players - so who would Manchester United supporters prefer and why?

For me, Fabregas is a wonderful player and will add creativity, goals and drive to the United midfield, but Bale possesses that X Factor with his pace, power and spectacular match-winning goals. He is a player who gets supporters on the edge of their seats by just touching the ball.

However, Fabregas has played at the highest level now for a number of years, winning domestic and international trophies with Barcelona and Spain on a yearly basis.

He is clearly used to winning and will bring that mentality with him to United. Bale, on the other hand, has not had the same experience at Tottenham and is in the early stages of what could be a great career.

He has carried his Tottenham side at times in the last two seasons and has had some very impressive performances on the Champions League stage, but being a Manchester United player comes with expectations to perform on a match-by-match basis.

Will Manchester United want to take a chance on a player like Bale who will cost a lot of money? Certainly with clubs like Real Madrid also showing interest I am sure United will be willing to splash the cash.

United need to strengthen their midfield but do they concentrate on their central midfield or out wide on the wings? Michael Carrick will need support and Fabregas is perfect for that role now the likes of Paul Scholes have departed, and there are doubts around the future of Anderson.

Similarly, out wide Nani's future has been brought into question and with Ryan Giggs possibly in his last year at the club, United may feel that Bale can help here.

Whether Wayne Rooney stays at the club or not could also prove decisive. If he leaves then Bale can quite easily slot into a position off the main striker - Robin van Persie - and can prove very effective in this area, both scoring goals and supplying Van Persie with the ammunition to be as prolific as last season.

United will need to pay big money for both players but I am sure whoever they go for will prove to have a very successful career at Old Trafford.

Or perhaps United could look towards an alternative player totally - what price Luis Suarez swapping the red of Liverpool for the red of Manchester United?
