Manchester United chase Dortmund star

Manchester United are considering bid for Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, according to Metro.

Gundogan, who played a huge role in Borussia Dortmund's successful European campaign last season, is also believed to be on the radar of Real Madrid.

David Moyes is yet to make a major signing for the Premier League champions, having failed to sign ex-Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara and ex-PSV star Kevin Strootman.

Alcanatara, 22, re-united with former Barca boss Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich eariler this month, while Strootman, 23, joined Italian giants AS Roma for a reported fee of just over £17million.

Moyes' top priority is to sign a midfielder this summer after Paul Scholes retired at the end of last season, with Anderson's future far from certain and Darren Fletcher facing health issues.

Manchester United have also failed to land Fabregas' transfer thus far, having seen three bid snubbed by the Spanish playmaker's club FC Barcelona.

But, the Old Trafford outfit remain confident of landing Dortmund's midfield maestro, who is understood to be available for around £20million.

The 22-year-old has two years left on his contract with the Champions League finalists and will be eager to strengthen his claim to be part of the German squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Gundogan has been a dominant figure in Dortmund's midfield with his passing range, and would be re-united with former Dortmund team-mate Shinji Kagawa if he joins Manchester United this summer.
