Manchester United are looking to bolster their midfield after the retirement of Paul Scholes and the continued health problems of Darren Fletcher. New manager David Moyes has stated that after speaking to the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson about the squad, they decided that the midfield is an area that needs to be strenghthened.

The Red Devils currently have Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and Anderson as the central midfielders at the club. Ryan Giggs operates there occasionally but at age 39 he doesn't have the energy required to be efficient in that position. United have also missed out on Thiago Alcantara and Kevin Strootman so they still need to add at least two central midfielders to their ranks.

This leads us to 25 year old Marouane Fellaini, who has been playing in the Premier League since 2008. David Moyes brought him to Everton and should know all the qualities he possesses. The Belgian is a very dominant figure in midfield and is quite versatile - he is capable of operating as an anchorman,a box-to-box midfielder and an attacking midfielder.

Fellaini would bring a different dimension to the Red Devils midfield as he is very physical, strong in a tackle, and is generally good on the ball. Since the departure of Roy Keane, United have never signed a dominant figure in midfield and after Strootman signed for Roma the best option is to swoop for Fellaini who has a release clause of £22m.

Fellaini would allow Carrick to get some rest and stay as fresh as possible because he will be 32 years old in a few days and will need some much needed rest. Since Carrick moved to Old Trafford he has been a regular for United, so it would be great to have another option as this will help to prolong his spell at the highest level as he is also very much a part of the England set-up.

Manchester United will be looking to successfully defend their Premier League title and go as far in the Champions League as possible, and Fellaini would be a great addition that can help them win silverware this upcoming season.
