Manchester United confirmed on Monday that they had submitted a bid of £30m plus add-ons for Cesc Fabregas, but reports in Spain claim that has been turned down.

A Barcelona source said:''Fabregas is not for sale. The Barcelona president has been very clear with Man United.''

United manager David Moyes said that he may be forced to admit defeat.

When asked whether he'll give up if the deal will drag on, Moyes said: ''I think a point does come but I think when you are interested in good players you want to give it every opportunity to materialise. And I'll do that.

''I'll hope that things can continue to try to move forward.

''At this moment I can only tell you that Ed Woodward (United's executive vice-chairman) is working hard to make the deals happen and we're hoping some of them will fall into place shortly.''

United confirmed they made a £25m offer for the 26-year-old midfielder last Monday, with Woodward leading the negotiations.

''As I understand, Ed had a repsonse,'' Moyes said at a news conference in Yokohoma, Japan.

Two days after United's official offer was confirmed, Ed returned to England from Australia to attend to an urgent transfer business.

Barcelona haven't made any official comment yet, but it is as of yet unclear where new head coach Gerardo Martino stands on the situation.

The Spaniard began his trade at Barcelona's academy, before Arsenal signed him as a 16-year-old in 2003.

Under Arsene Wenger's guidance, he became a key figure for Arsenal and was handed the captaincy in November 2008.

Fabregas lasted eight years at Arsenal, playing 303 games and scoring 57 goals, before moving back to Barcelona in 2011.

He has played 96 times for Barcelona, including 60 league games, but has rarely featured in his favorite position, which is in midifield, due to Xavi and Andres Iniesta already playing there.

Fabregas isn't the only target for United, with reported interest in Tottenham's attacker Gareth Bale, Everton's midfielder Marouane Fellaini and Everton's left-back Leighton Baines.

But none of those moves have materialised yet. And when asked why are United's fans becoming anixous, Moyes replied:''I can understand this feeling.

''But there have been quite a few changes. Other managers have changed their clubs, too, everybody thought this might be the summer when transfers are done later in the month.

"That was always the thought I had when I came into the club. You have to remember I only started on 1 July, so in truth I have only been in the job three weeks at this present time."
