The agent and father of Thiago Alcantara,Mazinho, has revealed that the 22-year-old Spaniard was very close to a move to Manchester United.
However he chose Bayern Munich after Pep Guardiola revealed that he wanted the Spanish starlet at the Allianz Arena.
It was reported that Thiago had agreed a deal in principle to move to Old Trafford but he chose to move to Bayern after Guardiola spoke to him about a move to the Europeans Champions.
"Thiago was very close to signing with Manchester United," Mazinho said.
"They watched him at the U21 European Championships and after it finished, they had talks. But they couldn't find an agreement," he added.
Mazinho also revealed Thiago's goal to progress to the full international side.
"Thiago knew it would be very hard to play matches at Barcelona, and his goal is to play for Spain at the 2014 World Cup."
Thiago has already been impressive for Bayern Munich and has even scored on his second appearance.
His displays so far must leave Manchester United thinking that they should have done much more or tried a little harder to pull off a deal.
