On July 23 we saw Yokohoma F. Marinos hit three past Manchester United, sending the Premier League champions to their second defeat of their Asia tour, but there is no need to worry for Red Devils fans.
During pre-season 12 months ago, we saw Sir Alex Ferguson's United side win three matches from six, including two draws and a defeat, scoring only seven times. Not the best of starts you may think?
Then came the Premier League season, where over 38 matches, Sir Alex's men lost a mere five times to go on and retain the league title for a record breaking 20th time.
This proves you do not need to have a successful pre-season campaign in order to get off to a good start come the big kick off.
David Moyes will understand the importance of managing such a successful squad of players, and he has the temperament and skill to deal with them and some of their egos.
At present, he still has Sir Alex in the background, and I am 100% sure he will be there to answer any questions, or help solve any problems that may arise.
We saw Moyes guide Everton to an average finish of 7th in the Premier League during his spell at the club, which was seen as a somewhat over-achievement for a manager with very low funds to work with.
Therefore, many will assume that now David Moyes has a treasure trove of funds at his disposal, (something which he has never had previously) combined with a very talented squad of players who are capable of challenging for the title even without any major changes.
If Moyes does bring silverware to Old Trafford in his first season, this will only improve him as a person, benefit his managerial achievements in the future, and help his worldwide reputation.
