With the retirement of Old Trafford legend Paul Scholes, the pressure is on Manchester United manager David Moyes to find a player talented enough to fill the great man’s shoes.
Of all the gifted and elegant midfielders in the world, İlkay Gündoğan appears to be the best candidate for this position.
Gündoğan is a 22-year-old German international midfielder with a wonderful future ahead of him. His composure on the field is just as impressive as his technical ability. His dribbling ability is solid, and his range of passing is truly excellent.
On the European Stage, he has shown pure quality against challenging sides such as Real Madrid and Manchester City. He was also a central figure in Borussia Dortmund's 2011-12 Bundesliga triumph.
All summer, rumours about Manchester United's desire to sign a new midfielder have been constant, with player's including Cesc Fabregas, Kevin Strootman and Luka Modric all supposedly on the Red Devils radar.
But, if Manchester United are to sign a talented midfielder who would fill the role left by Scholes, then Gündoğan must surely be considered as a top contender.
