Benzema-plus-cash an option for Liverpool

Published 6 Comments

Liverpool are reportedly open to a player-plus-cash deal for Luis Suarez from Real Madrid.

The Daily Star claims Brendan Rodgers would consider an offer that includes Karim Benzema plus money for the Uruguayan international forward.

Suarez has been left angered by comments from the Reds boss regarding comments that he ‘owes the fans’, according to the paper, whilst a £40million bid from Arsenal was rejected earlier in the week.

The Reds will not want to sell one of their prized assets to a Premier League top four rival, and might be more receptive to a club in Spain if the striker really does want to leave Anfield this summer.

Liverpool landed Suarez in January 2011, and the 26-year-old has rarely been out of the headlines since moving to Merseyside from Ajax.

Benzema, meanwhile, has featured regularly since joining Madrid in 2009, but isn’t a guaranteed starter at the Santiago Bernabeu. The arrival of Suarez would move him down the pecking order with last season’s La Liga runners-up.

Having proved himself in France and Spain, a move to England might just appeal to the 25-year-old, and if Liverpool do lose Suarez this summer, the arrival of Benzema would certainly soften the blow.
