Both Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima and Cristiano Ronaldo have proved themselves to be deadly in front of goal - but who was more clinical?

Brazilian Ronaldo, also known as "El Fenomeno", scored a total of 405 goals in his professional club playing career. For his country he found the net 62 times, meaning he retired on 467 goals in 678 games. This gives an average of 0.68 goals per game or at least one goal every 1.45 games.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the star from Portugal, has yet to finish his playing career but has already played 626 games and scored 363 goals. 324 of these were whilst playing for club and the remaining (39) for country. So on average he scores 0.57 goals a game. In other words every 1.9 games you  can expect the forward  to score. However as Cristiano Ronaldo has not retired this figures may rise and fall over the coming seasons.

Both Ronaldos have played at least four seasons at Real Madrid; let’s compare their statistics whilst playing there.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 201 goals in just 199 appearances for the Spanish giants. This is a stat that is hard to miss as it shows that every game for Real Madrid that he plays in you can count on him to score.

However, if he doesn't you can be assured that he will make it up in another game. Unfortunately for Ronaldo Luis he played five less than the Portuguese player but only scored 118. Although netting a goal every 1.64 games is still an achievement in itself.

If you then take into account that the Brazilians highest scoring season (1997/98 for Barcelona) was 47 goals with Cristiano’s being 60 (2011/12 for Real Madrid)  it makes it very difficult to compare who was better.

Who is the better player?
