Tottenham Hotspur have targeted Argentine international Angel di Maria as a possible replacement for Gareth Bale, according to reports.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is slowly coming to terms with the reality that he faces regarding the Gareth Bale transfer saga, Marca claims, with the player intent on a move this summer.
The Welsh wizard has been heavily pursued by last season's La Liga runners-up, and Tottenham have now cast their eye towards Madrid's wideman Di Maria.
Before Tottenham's interest in the player, Madrid were not looking to let the Argentine player leave in the transfer window. Indeed, the Spanish paper claims Florentino Perez made a personal plea for Di Maria to stay at the club following Jose Mourinho's departure. But, the Madrid hierarchy are now believed to be actively considering the possibility of letting their winger leave the Bernabeu.
The 25-year-old has no intention of moving away though, and wants to keep his settled family in the Spanish capital.
Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas has refused to deny that Madrid have made a bid, thought to be around €60 million, for Bale, although other English sources have claimed that an £81million bid has been rejected.
Whether Spurs would be interested in taking Di Maria to White Hart Lane as part of a deal remains to be seen, but the player's desire to remain in Spain rather than north London could be pivotal.
