Kenneth Omeruo is one of Europe's most promising defensive prospects, and Jose Mourinho could be set to fast-track him into the Chelsea first team this season.
Mourinho appears to be trying something similar with Czech Republic youngster Tomas Kalas, the two could be the future core of the Chelsea defence.
Omeruo made 36 appearances for Dutch side ADO Den Haag, where he spent last season on loan. He was one of the standout performers in their defence as they finished ninth in the Eredivisie.
Mourinho has hinted on several occasions that Omeruo, like Kalas, will not be being loaned out again next season but will stay and fight for a spot in the team.
The returning Blues boss sees this as a more financially logical alternative than spending money on a new centre-back.
One would assume that if Omeruo stays at Chelsea next season he will want to pay Mourinho back for this confidence he has shown in him with some great performances next season, and the talented Nigerian defender will no doubt impress given the opportunity.
Whether he is able to nail down a starting spot as soon as this upcoming Premier League campaign remains to be seen, but he proved in the recent African Cup of Nations that he has the ability to be a valuable asset to any team.
