You'd think that if you were a footballer who was a free-agent searching for a club, you would spend your time either on the training field or doing your utmost to persuade sides to take you on.

This logic doesn't seem to have applied to former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger however, as pictures have emerged of the 22-year-old flaunting a new tattoo... on his face.

Ranger left the Magpies by mutual consent in March and has yet to find a new club.

As if the prospect of tattooing your own face wasn't daunting enough, Ranger has gone one better. The letters now permanently inked onto his skin read 'Ranger'.

No stranger to controversy, Ranger already has a tattoo of a smiley face etched into the inside of his bottom lip, and is facing a rape charge in connection with an incident in a Newcastle hotel.

He is set to appear in court next month.

The young forward's latest stunt will surely create major media attention, which Ranger could probably do without - considering his current situation.
