8. Phil Jagielka (Everton)

Phil Jagielka became one of the country's best central defenders shortly after Everton signed him from Sheffield United in 2007. His performances for club and country have been immense. He's a tough defender, willing to put himself in dangerous situations and he maintains a good positional sense.

Jagielka has won 66% of his duels in the 2012/13 season and he has even scored twice. His defensive errors have been kept to a total of four, but that's mostly down to his willingness to make risky decisions.

The defender was also Everton's captain last season and one of the team's most influential figures.
