5. Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

Per Mertesacker has been the brain behind the Arsenal defence this season. His intelligent positioning and power in the air have been essential towards the end of Arsenal's season. 

Mertesacker stands at 6'6 and plays an important part in set-peice defending. He had a 91% pass accuracy rate, which is remarkable for a defender, and he won 66% of his duels.

Despite his intelligence and height, he does lack of pace, but is aggressive in tackles, which can sometimes be lethal.
