It is popular belief that Ryan Giggs is the greatest loss to English football, snatched away by Wales before he could embark on a glittering career with the three lions, but it's totally false.
Ryan Giggs captained England schoolboys, but the Welsh Wizard was never eligible to play for the country at senior level. Schoolboy level football selects purely on geographical location and Giggs' schooling at Moorside High School in Salford meant he was allowed to represent the U16 side.
So the one that slipped away, was sadly never caught in the first place. It's the old question of is it better to have played and lost, than never played at all?
