Former Stoke City midfielder Rory Delap was famous all over the world for his trademark long throws back in 2009.

When Stoke first got promoted to the Premier League in 2008 many thought they would go straight back down but secret weapon Rory Delap was on hand to terrify goalkeepers.

Arsenal, Spurs and Everton were some of the first casualties of 'The Human Slingshot' as his fame grew and Stoke City's style of play became a topic of discussion for most journalists.

Since then the midfielder has slipped down the ranks at Stoke until he was released by new manager Mark Hughes and joined League Two side Burton Albion earlier this month.

Delap came back to his old training ground last week to play Stoke City in a pre-season friendly.

Burton lost the game 2-0 and when asked abot his long throws after the game, he joked:

"It’s a bit too early to get them out of the locker yet, I’ll wait until the season starts for that – give my shoulders a rest for now.

"It’s great to be back at Clayton Wood and see everyone, not just the lads but everyone else who works here, but it feels a bit strange being part of the opposition.

"It’s a great deal for me to join up with Burton, they are a club heading in the right direction and looking to go up, so it will be great to part of and hopefully for me to keep playing football."

The 37-year-old hopes to shock defences again when the Football League season begins this weekend.
