Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis has been subject to a lot of interest from Newcastle United after the Premier League club increased their initial offer to £6.9 million last week.
The Ligue 1 outfit have a different price tag for the striker and it exceeds the valuation the Magpies have of him.
Alan Padrew has made it clear he wants to add some more firepower to his strike force and felt Gomis would be the man, having scored 18 goals in his last campaign for Lyon.
Newcastle tried to add to their strike-force last season with Loic Remy but the French striker joined QPR - who have now been relegated. With Remy wanting out of the Championship side, Sky Sports claims Newcastle have moved their interest from Gomis to Remy, most likely on a season-long loan.
Newcastle have been really low on strikers recently with only Papiss Cisse and Shola Ameobi in their current squad. Padrew, chief scout Graham Carr and director of football Joe Kinnear have been coming together to try and recruit some new talent to add to the side.
I believe Remy would be the best move for Newcastle because everyone has seen his ability in the small time he was here in the Premier League with Queens Park Rangers. He was a match-winner for the Hoops and never failed to make an impact when he was on the pitch.
Newcastle will look very good next season with a player like Remy added to their already dangerous side.
