The Dallas Mavericks have managed to acquire the services of point guard Shane Larkin.

The 20-year-old was initially the 18th overall pick for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA draft, but he has now been traded to the Mavericks.

Larkin's father is baseball Hall of Famer Barry Larkin, and it seems that he has certainly inherited some elite sporting talent.

Unfortunately for the point guard, he suffered a broken ankle whilst in training for the summer league.

The American underwent surgery for the injury, and will now have his sights set on returning to fitness before the regular season begins in the autumn.

Larkin spent the 2012-13 season with the Miami Hurricanes, and his average of 18.8 points a game was a large factor in helping the side win the Atlantic Coast Conference championship.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are hoping to build on their maiden NBA championship, which was achieved in 2011.
