In an interview with Serbian national newspaper Kurir, Srjdan Djokovic openly criticised former world number one players Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal for their attitudes towards his son, current number one Novak Djokovic.

When speaking of Nadal, he discussed how Novak and Rafa had been best friends for years, but when Djokovic began to have singles success and reached number one ahead of his friend and rival, Nadal distanced himself from the man he has been competing with for years.

He added that Djokovic is the only athlete who treats his opponents the same whether he wins or loses, thanks to the positive attitude instilled in him as a child regarding defeat.

When discussing Federer, he was far from complementary, remarking that on court he may be the greatest of all time, but off court he was anything but great.

Federer has made clear attempts to discredit the Serbian as soon as it was clear that Djokovic was the heir apparent to the Federer throne.

However, Novak's father was very complementary of not just Andy Murray, but his whole team and family.

Srjan talked about how the two had grown up playing against each other and despite the intense rivalry on court, Srjdan says he has never felt any sort of jealousy from the Murray camp about his son's success.

He went on to say that he feels the two cannot be close friends now due to the intense nature of their rivalry on court, with many seeing the pair as the next Federer and Nadal, however, it is probable that they will become great friends once their careers are over.

This interview is a strange one because the Djokovic camp are renowned for their shy and retiring approach towards the media, but it has raised a few interesting points which will no doubt draw a reaction from the other members of the "big four" in the next few days.
