Kimi Raikkonen: A better driver than Vettel?

Kimi Raikkonen is, in my opinion, one of the best Formula 1 drivers ever to have driven.

He may only have a single World Championship to his name, but the 33-year-old Finn is currently surging towards the top of the drivers' Championship in a car which has flattered to deceive over the last few seasons. His Lotus car is currently sitting second in the standings after another superb drive saw him finish second behind Lewis Hamilton at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix.

After winning the World Championship in his first season at Ferrari in 2007, Raikkonen had two more seasons with the Italian team before leaving Formula 1 and taking up rally driving. His career in the WRC was nothing special, with ‘The Ice-Man’ winning just a single stage over two seasons. He decided to return to Formula 1 in 2012 with the Lotus team, and finished 3rd in the Drivers Championship in his first season back.

In 2013 he started strongly with a win in Australia and has kept up his fight with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, which looks like it will go down to the wire.

Raikkonen is known as ‘Ice-Man’ because of his cool persona, which often seems to border on arrogant when faced with the media. He never looks flustered on or off the track and these traits can only lead to a quality racing driver.

In my opinion Raikkonen could easily win the World Championship, should he be driving one of the better cars.

Vettel and indeed any of the other drivers would struggle to achieve the feats he has in a car such as the Lotus, but Raikkonen makes it look easy, and this is why I believe him to be a better driver than Vettel.
