David Moyes is prepared to switch his transfer targets in a bid to secure a top midfielder this summer, according to various reports.
The Manchester United manager has thus far been frustrated in his search to bring a new playmaker to his club, and is now looking into the possibility of signing Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio.
Marchisio is seen as an ideal candidate to strengthen United's squad and could be available for a figure around the £25m mark.
Earlier on this summer the 27-year-old Italy international spoke about the prospect of a move, saying: "I'd like to stay, but we must both agree... I'd look around and I would be ready to consider any offers. I read the interest of Manchester United and Monaco: in these cases, I'd be proud."
Though there is no concrete evidence to back up the claims that Moyes is preparing to make a move for Marchisio, Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport has insisted that a source close to the United boss divulged that he has contacted the Serie A champions regarding the player's availability.
Marchisio, who has made a total of 38 appearances for Italy, is against stiff competition for a place in Juventus' starting midfield line-up and it's because of this that it's likely Juventus won't provide too much resistance if an offer were to come in.
It is, as aforementioned, little more than rumoured speculation at the minute, but with Cesc Fabregas seemingly staying where he is, and United fans growing restless with the lack of new faces, Moyes may be inclined to follow up interest in Marchisio before too long.
