Real Madrid could be paying too much money if they break the world transfer record on Tottenham star Gareth Bale, according to Barcelona veteran Xavi.
The Spain international, who has been touted as a future Barcelona coach, claims that he has not seen enough of Bale to convince him that the Wales international is worth anything close to £90m.
“I don’t know if Bale is worth what he’s worth," Xavi, quoted by The Sun, told reporters. “Sincerely, I haven’t seen him play a full 90 minutes.”
Xavi's comments will come as little surprise to the Real Madrid faithful, who are becoming increasingly excited by the prospect of Bale's arrival.
It's not unusual for players at the two rival clubs to take subtle digs at each other, particularly during the transfer window.
Bale is reportedly determined to force a transfer through to Real Madrid this summer, following a fantastic individual season with Spurs, in which he scored an impressive 26 goals in all competitions.
However, Tottenham are desperate to keep the forward, and will not sell for anything less than £80m.
