Though David Moyes has made it his mission recently to capture a big signing this summer, his most recent conquest for Cesc Fabregas has so far come to nothing, and the ex-Everton boss has so far yet to come up trumps.

Signing an established midfielder such as Cesc Fabregas or Marouane Fellaini, who is the subject of constant speculation, would certainly be a positive signing for Manchester United as the club seeks to fill the void left by Paul Scholes.

Perhaps an alternative option for Moyes would be to turn his attention to the expanse of young talent that is also available.

A number of options include:

Koke: 21-year-old Spanish playmaker

Atletico Madrid's star playmaker Koke scored three goals and set up a further eight in 2012/13.

The 21-year-old talent has already been reported to have caught the attention of both Chelsea and Arsenal. Last season the Spaniard started 29 games and made four appearances as a substitute.

Koke started his career for the youth team, Atletico B, in 2008 before the Spanish Under-21 international made his debut for the La Liga club on 19 September 2009 in a 5-2 defeat to Spanish giants Barcelona. Since then Koke has made 79 appearances and scored seven times for Atletico Madrid.

Valuation: £12,500,000

Erik Lamela: 21-year-old Argentine offensive midfielder

Having reportedly caught the attention of Manchester City and Chelsea after scoring 15 goals last season for Serie A club Roma, this youngster may become hot property in the next few seasons.

Roma captured the Argentine from Club Atletico River Plate for €12m, plus €2m add-ons that activated upon Lamela's 20th league appearance, plus a further fee of €3.2m to Orel B.V, on August 6th 2011. In the same season the young player played four games for the Under-20 Argentina side, scoring on three ocassions.

Lamela's first season at the Stadio Olimpico was somewhat unspectacular, and he appeared 29 times, managing four goals with an additional six assists. Though it is safe to say Lamela has definitely found his footing and we can expect great things from the offensive midfielder.

Valuation: £20,000,000

Adam Maher: 19-year-old midfielder from Holland

After several impressive performances the Dutchman has reportedly caught the attention of Manchester City.

The midfielder recently signed for PSV from Eredivisie side Alkmaar Zaanstreek, and the youngster managed an impressive 10 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions for the Dutch side last season.

Despite being only 19-years-of-age Maher has already claimed one full international cap for the Netherlands.

Valuation: £8,000,000

Christian Eriksen: 21-year-old Danish maestro

The young Ajax player has proven himself to be a world-class talent in recent seasons and is constantly subject to speculation of a big money move to one of the top clubs in Europe.

Eriksen scored 10 goals in 33 league appearances last season as well as making a breakthrough into the Denmark international side and achieving eight starts. Eriksen earned his first cap in February 2010 in a friendly against Austria.

Ajax paid just €1m on 17th October 2008 for the talented youngster and Eriksen went on to make his debut for the Eredivisie side in January 2010 after working his way through the youth system.

Valuation: £16,000,000

Julian Draxler: 19-year-old German offensive midfielder

The young German international plays for Bundesliga club Schalke 04 usually in an attacking midfield role or on the left wing.

Draxler made his debut on 15th January 2011 in a 0-1 loss to Hamburger SV, making him the fourth youngest player to play in the Bundesliga.

Draxler has so far made 75 appearances for the club. In his latest season he managed to score 10 goals in 24 starts in the league. In 39 games, in all competitions, the young midfielder scored a total of 13 goals and claimed five assists.

Valuation: £19,500,000

Though the talent does not end with these five players this list proves there is a large range of players out there that could be bought for a reasonable fee and could serve as a long-term midfield option for the defending Premier League champions.

Who should Moyes target in his first transfer window in charge of Manchester United?
