Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Edin Dzeko will be Manchester City's first-choice centre-forward this season.
The Bosnian under Roberto Mancini was given limited opportunities despite proving himself by scoring goal after goal off the bench.
This season, though, it looked like Dzeko would be heading for the exit door if anywhere, with the likes of Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic joining the Citizens and Sergio Aguero also competing for a place with the targetman.
However, things have taken a shock turn and Pellegrini will use Dzeko as his main attacking outlet, telling reporters: "we could have signed other players but I consider Dzeko to be the main striker of the team".
A manager to put his full trust in him may be exactly what Dzeko needs to thrive in England.
He seems to have been on the verge of catching fire since his move from Wolfsburg but never quite got the run in the team that perhaps his performances deserved.
Pellegrini went on to say that any new arrivals were only support for the foundations of the squad that were already built as there needs to be more than one good player in every position.
Dzeko has shown good pre-season form already, scoring two goals in two games at the Barclays Asia Trophy, including one absolutely thumping volley from outside the box, and looks like he could be a handful for the defences he'll be facing in the coming season, especially when he'll be receiving service from the likes of David Silva, Jesus Navas, Samir Nasri and Jovetic.
