The World Wrestling Entertainment is famous for their colourful and over-exaggerated fights between trained athletes.
But was this a genuine part of the show?
Superstar Orton was surprised during SmackDown’s World Tour Live Event in Cape Town, South Africa on Tuesday - a member of the crowd had to be restrained after attacking the 6’5” athlete whilst he was saluting the crowd on the turnbuckle.
The incident, captured by a separate fan, showed the perpetrator jumping into the ring and sneaking up behind Orton before delivering a ‘low-blow.’
The man was quickly apprehended by WWE security and dragged away before Orton could get his hands on him.
Local authorities are believed to be investigating the incident and the South African fan is being held in custody pending further charges.
WWE have released a statement on their website: "WWE.com has learned that Randy Orton was violently attacked by an audience member during a SmackDown World Tour Live Event in Cape Town, South Africa yesterday evening.
"Footage of the attack was captured by a WWE fan and posted to YouTube, and shows the perpetrator striking Orton from behind.
"The matter is currently under investigation by the local authorities, and the South African fan is being held in jail pending criminal charges. The extent of Orton’s injuries are unknown at this time."
