As the transfer window approaches its last month, Manchester United are still yet to make a major signing.

David Moyes, who took over from Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last season, has told fans to be patient as there will be signings soon.

We take a look at the areas Manchester United need to strengthen and who would be the ideal signing.

Problem position: Left-back

Patrice Evra has held this spot for many years and was regarded as one of the best left-backs in the world. But his age is getting to him.

While he has added a new attacking dimension to his style of play, making occasional runs down the left flank, he is often caught out of position.

While Fabio has so far been used as a right-back by Moyes, Alexander Buttner is still young and needs more experience before he can start featuring in United’s first-team on a consistent basis.

Answer: Leighton Baines

Moyes reportedly had a bid of £15 million rejected for the English left-back.

Baines would be the perfect signing for United as he never neglects his defensive duties while being a threat attacking too.

He is known for his thunderous free-kicks and and was the most creative players in Europe in 2012.

Problem position: Wingers

All of United’s wingers were out of form last season, with Ashley Young consistently riddled with injuries while Nani and Antonio Valencia just had a disastrous season.

United have signed Wilfried Zaha who has so far impressed in the pre-season tour, but the left-wing continues to be a worry.

Adnan Januzaj still has a lot to learn while Ryan Giggs doesn’t have the energy required to play 30 games a season anymore.

Answer: Gareth Bale

Now before you start laughing, I’d like to point out the title says 'ideal' signing and not 'possible' signing.

Bale would be the ultimate marquee signing, but with talks of him costing over £100 million, perhaps it would be easier to sign Cristiano Ronaldo!

If some miracle were to happen and Bale ended up at Old Trafford, United would not have to worry about which winger to play for another decade.

Problem position: Central midfield

David Moyes has been desperately looking to make a signing in midfield.

United have been linked with a number of stars, including Thiago Alcantara, Kevin Strootman, Marouane Fellaini and Cesc Fabregas.

Last season, United’s midfield lacked the killer-instinct it possessed when the likes of Paul Scholes were still young, with Michael Carrick being the only one who had a good season.

Answer: Cesc Fabregas

The Spanish midfielder can single-handedly break the opposition’s defence with his immaculate passes, and the prospect of his linking up with former Arsenal teammate Robin van Persie would be a delight for all football fans.

But Barcelona are reluctant to sell him, and have already rejected two bids from Manchester United. So, this signing looks unlikely.
