Former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle believes star player Gareth Bale is not ready to go abroad amid continued speculation over a move to Real Madrid.

With the Spanish giants prepared to pay big money for the Spurs winger, Bale is odds on for a move to the Bernabeu, however Hoddle feels it would be a mistake for the 24-year-old to leave Tottenham this summer.

"It's a difficult one but if you're talking about the lad himself, I would definitely, if I was advising him, I would say he's not quite ready to go abroad," Hoddle told talkSPORT.

"I think he's had a sensational year, for him to pick the reins up in that form would be nigh-on impossible straight away. I don't feel he's quite ready off the pitch to make that move."

Bale is said to be keen to talk to Madrid, however chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell the Welshman stating he is not for sale.

And although the former England boss admitted every player has their price, he thinks Bale would benefit from another season at White Hart Lane as he tries to build on the success he enjoyed last season.

"It's one thing setting a standard, it's keeping the standard which is the hardest thing, the consistency."

"My word how consistent he's been, he's been nine out of 10 every game, some of the goals he's scored have been sensational," Hoddle said.

"I just sense that maybe he might go for the wrong reasons. If he wants to go just for football reasons I think it might be better in a year's time or maybe two years' time," he added.

Bale returned to training on Wednesday, as rumours over his future continue to make the headlines.
