Chelsea youngster Josh McEachran has been linked with a shock loan move to La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, according to Spanish newspaper Gipuzoka.
The 20-year-old midfielder McEachran, who featured in the club's pre-season tour of Asia but has been left out of the tour to the USA.
Jose Mourinho has been impressed with McEachran but wants the England Under-21 international to gain more first-team experience.
Real Sociedad defied the critics last season, and finished in fourth place in La Liga to qualify for the Champions League ahead of the likes of Valencia and Malaga.
After the sale of Spanish Under-21 midfielder Asier Illarramendi to Real Madrid, Sociedad are keen to bolster their midfield ranks and see McEachran as the type of player that fits the bill.
McEachran has experienced a mixed time on loan during the past two seasons, including a frustrating six months on loan at Swansea where he only managed to make four appearances for then Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers.
Last season saw McEachran drop down to Championship level with Middlesbrough, where he spent the whole season in a disappointing campaign for the Teesiders.
McEachran did stand out at Championship level and Chelsea may look to send him to a higher level this season and test the youngster ability.
Now McEachran has the opportunity to play in one of the best leagues in the world and play at Champions League level also.
This will provide the talented playmaker with the platform to show Chelsea that he is ready to make the step up and become part of the Chelsea first-team squad next season.
